Documenting Our Work...

A couple of days ago, some students did great work at our making words station and it's created a craze!

Students are able to capture the work they did before they erase it with a simple picture.  Here are some of their creations!

Explaining our Thinking...

I was able to capture our first experience with Chicken Math!  Look at their hard work and how quickly they understood how to work the app.  Just click on the videos that have Chicken Math in the title.

After blinking for 100 seconds, here is how the students are feeling...

100th Day!

We could have (and probably will) 100 posts about the 100th day.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to do everything so we'll try and finish up a few here and send a few activities home.  We did get to make 100 snack. 

 

100 Seconds...

I was blessed to have a few parents able to watch our 100 seconds of activity.  We estimated how many times we could do the activity in 100 seconds.  Afterwards, we recorded our data.

Thanks to teachers at our school, we were able to bring in an illustrator and learn about drawing and the work that goes into it.

A Pin Drop...

I took a few minutes and captured the kids at work...whether that was reading, taking an AR quiz, sharing what they enjoyed, or staying in at second recess to play math games or read a Mad Lib.  I've never heard so many kids ask what an adjective or adverb is.  Don't worry...a chart will come soon!

Our First Day!

We practiced taking down our chairs, reading the morning message, and then hand sanitizing!

We were able to start and end our day with the iPads.  You can see by the concentration of the kids how excited and engaged they were.  We were even able to listen to a video about Martin Luther King, Jr. in the afternoon and share in small groups.

Phonics Chunks Chant

Say that five times fast!

After seeing a video on Youtube where a class shared their knowledge of sounds all to a catchy rhythm, I knew my students could do their own.  We are using our own sounds that we discover through spelling or reading.

As we add more to the video, I'll update to document all of our learning!  Enjoy!

Be Proactive!!!

What do you do when you don't know a word when you're reading?  You go to the dictionary!

I "caught" a student looking up the word porcine on the Learner's Dictionary app.  She had found this word in her reading and did what a growing reader does...learn what it means!

I love this time of year!  The kids are getting it!  Here are some great examples...

He wrote the top half at school (an opinion piece) and the bottom half at home!  I didn't even ask him to add more.  He did it all on his own!!! 

What's the yellow note say?  Goal.  He set his own goal in his book and the first mark is where he is currently.  Woo hoo!

Measurement

When we studied non-fiction, one type of fact we learned about was the comparison fact. 

One day during our math stations, a group measured themselves with gingerbread (practicing measuring in different units) and discovered one of them was 18 gingerbread.  Then he measured the top of our table.  It was 18 gingerbread.  He shared with me that he was as long as the table.  Thought we could try it out and sure enough...he was pretty close!
