When I teach writing, I try to point out certain characteristics of writers that we read. Kate DiCamillo is one of those authors. In The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, one element she used was the magic of three.

Details and Distractions
It doesn't take much to distract some of my students.
Can you see what distracted them yesterday?
It's a spider that was hanging from the ceiling and my students saw it across the room and were mesmerized. Unfortunately, it looks more like a blur when I snapped the photo (it's just to the left of the j words) because it started to climb before it was removed from the room.
