Kids crack me up!
Especially when they don't quite understand what they are saying.
One girl thought marbles were called "mar-balls".
One boy told me he gave himself his own Valentime. Yes, I wrote that correctly.
I told the class I was going to write a poem about zumba. One of my boys said, "what's zumba"? And then he said, "oh, that's the lion from Lion King." I didn't have the heart to tell him that was Simba not zumba.
Thanks for the giggles!

We Got the Giggles...
We used nouns to help us create adjectives today. Webs helped us fan adjectives from the noun in the middle. I had the class create some webs and then we did a backwards share. We shared the adjectives and guessed what their noun was.
Giggles occurred when they would use positive adjectives and I would nod my head to signify that it could be about me and then they would throw in our favorite adjectives: fat, plump, and smelly.
One certain writer began her list...
And then she said, "Ugly and hairy."
Well, that changed my thinking. There's no way it could be me.
The class guessed. We didn't get it.
She then responded with, "The teacher."
Nice...
We had to stop there to wipe our "tears of joy".
I'm glad I can laugh at myself...and so can the class!

Current Videos
Check out our link of current class videos. Look at the tabs across the top of the page.
I will add videos into the playlists as we make them.
Enjoy! The class works hard and they truly enjoy your comments!

We love Screen Chomp!
One of the apps that you'll be seeing more student work from is Screen Chomp. It's a great app that lets the students draw, write, record, and share their thinking. I am planning on having students video their reading, self-assess it, and e-mail the video to me so I can also assess their reading.
Here are two videos that students were able to create just having some fun!
Ariah's story (first draft)
Lane's fun voice

Poet's Eyes...
In our poetry unit, we looked at many types of ways to write poetry. Looking at everyday objects with new eyes is called using our poets' eyes.
I had set out several shells on our meeting table and had the students write what they saw on our morning message. I wish you could have heard them talking to each other...However, I was able to capture some of their conversation in photos.

100 Posts!
Finally, I have reached 100 posts!
I just have to stop and share a great moment the other day in class. We were finishing up a project and I had about 8 students who were already finished. With only a few minutes before needing to go to gym, I pulled out Apples to Apples Jr.
What a fun time I had playing this game with the students. We were able to just sit, read, laugh, and enjoy some fun (that just so happened to be educational).
I love what I do!
